“Thousands in Somerset living with undiagnosed hearing loss” Local Audiologist
To mark World Hearing Day (3 March), a Somerset Audiologist warns that thousands across the county may be living with undiagnosed hearing loss. Led annually by the World Health Organisation, the day raises awareness of hearing loss and early intervention. Around one in three UK adults over 65 experiences hearing loss. With Somerset’s population at approximately 1,000,000 and 22% aged 65+, tens of thousands could be affected. Simon Swindells of South West Hearing Care says many wait years for help, despite impacts on confidence, relationships, social engagement and wider health.
